From the Office of the CTO:
Security, Visibility and Community

By Dave Bennett, CTO, Axway

Governance across all interactions—the sum result of the concepts of security, visibility and community—is the single most essential IT capability demanded by today's enterprises.

The creation and enforcement of critical policies and the fostering of trust between two parties, whatever their interactions may be—for Axway, that's the definition of security.

But what exactly are we talking about here? We all have a sense of what these three concepts mean in their own right, but where it concerns governance, what do they mean exactly?

The creation and enforcement of critical policies and the fostering of trust between two parties, whatever their interactions may be—for Axway, that's the definition of security. It means agreements will be kept, expectations will be met, and all data—the object of any interactions—will go where it's meant to go, impervious to risks, leaks or breaches.

The monitoring of those interactions, the assurance that policy enforcement performs well, the discovery of non-events (i.e., those moments when events that aren't occurring should be occurring), and the ability to analyze what's happening today and predict what's sure to happen tomorrow—that's visibility.

Finally, there's the third, arguably most important pillar: community. This characterizes an enterprise's ability to rapidly onboard and seamlessly provision new users, to create an environment where they can deploy new services quickly, and to do it in a context directly related to the ecosystem.

With a thorough understanding of these concepts, savvy enterprises can avoid the unmitigated risks, inaccurate views, and baseless analytics of the past, while minimizing the frustrations of their user communities.
